Chinese: 56式突击步枪 ("Assault Rifle, Model of 1956")
Series of Chinese assault rifle, a variant of the AK-47 (specifically Type 3) and AKM. It started production in 1956 and continues to be used by various nations today. Easily distinguished from its original Soviet counterparts by its fully enclosed front sight, and all types are lacking side mount plates for attaching optics. Also often has a folding spike bayonet.
Not to be confused with the Type 56 carbine, a Chinese copy of the SKS.
