There are two systems in writing Chinese, Traditional and Simplified (e.g. 馬 vs. 马). Mainland China, Singapore, and Malaysia use Simplified Chinese while Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan use Traditional Chinese. There is also an official system for romanizing Chinese known as Hanyu Pinyin.
