See help:users for rough guidelines on what it takes to get promoted. For builder specifically, you need a decent number of uploads with not too many deleted uploads.

Evazion has also given slightly more specific guidelines on what it takes to reach Contributor status (forum #254926):

The way you get unlimited uploads is by being promoted to Contributor level. The way you do that is by proving your uploads really are high quality, by uploading a large number of posts and maintaining a low deletion rate. Generally the goal is around 750 uploads and a 5% or so deletion rate. There's no other way to get unlimited uploads except by getting promoted on merit.

While many on this thread may be more concerned about getting Builder status because it is the lowest privileged level most users can expect to reach, it is important to note that it is possible to skip Builder entirely and get promoted straight to Contributor. And even if it's not realistic for everyone, it is still technically possible to reach that rank in only a couple weeks. For example, python pip, who was promoted yesterday, has 816 uploads, with only 11 of them being deleted, and their account was created only two and a half weeks ago.

I see two people in this tread who have a lot of uploads more then 500~ and one of them does a zero deletion rate. I'm hesitant to upload seeing they are still members.

That user also has a negative feedback for using an alt account to insult people in the forums, and before earning that was regularly trying to stir shit in this thread. I dunno what would be the lowest number of approved uploads an admin might promote someone for, but I would imagine breaking the rules would make it harder to get promoted.

Uploads aren't the only way to be promoted, just demonstrate an interest in helping the site. Forum participation, tag clean up, translations, ect.

So you get Disqualified for promote for negative feedback? I seen users get promoted with it.

Blindvigil isn't saying negative feedbacks lock you out entirely from getting promoted. How recent the negative feedback was is probably a factor, too. As long as the offense wasn't too bad and the user consistently avoids making the same mistake in the future over a long enough period of time, it shouldn't be a major obstacle to getting promoted.

Yes, my point was that causing trouble will almost certainly make the process take longer, even if whatever you did doesn't result in a feedback for it, and I don't know how likely it is to be promoted with 5-600 uploads in the first place. Admins for sure aren't only looking at your uploads when considering users for promotions.

Hi, guys, I just want to confirm something based on this thread. I am a new user, the perks that Gold gives like 6 tags etc are very enticing and I really want to pay. This might be a controversial opinion here, but I would much rather pay extra than upload and get promoted that way. I have nothing to upload and I am not sure if the energy I waste in finding and uploading is worth it compared to paying and instantly getting. So my question is, if I cannot pay and get gldd and I since I don't want upload/contribute and get gold, there is no way for me to get gold. Is that correct?

For the most part, yes. Your only other shot would be to enter the next "Discord speed DMail" competition for a chance to win Platinum. You might find more information on Discord; I don't really know much about it myself.

Ok, thanks. I wanted to make sure I was not missing anything. I'll try that and see what happens

Finally getting my foot into this thread given a minor bug patch to the 2 tag limit was applied recently. Originally some classes of tags, like those that would act as operators for filtering posts could be used on a free account in excess of the standard 2, given this has now been patched on my end I have to raise some serious questions as to, and I cannot put it more eloquently "why the fuck bother?". I have wanted to use gold for the past 5 years of viewing this site's content with the minimum incentive being purely to support the maintenance costs. While I maintain some fear over the shortcomings of the blacklisting options (namely, occasionally allow an undesired image to load before the blacklist can hide the post which as a saving grace the level locked tags loli and shota do not have), I want the ability to scrutinise search terms and support a reliable, regularly updated, and well structured image library. So why bother patching that bug when it makes the site objectively worse with no benefit? You don't need to sell me on upgrading. As a passive user I'd pay a service fee for the site as is (given an extra couple search terms). Why fix a hole at the top of bucket you only ever half fill?

Edit/update: it seems this was a misunderstanding on my part which operators & metatags were and weren't free to use

As much as I'd like to contribute more, it takes me at least a half-hour or more of my full attention to sufficiently tag one image. Is this the norm? Am I just extremely inefficient or are people really dedicating that much time to this site?

The whole process is intimidating and time-consuming for me to the point that it's hard to find motivation even just to upload more of the kind of art I like to see, let alone bother to try and get promoted.

I get that there's no alternative, but I still hope that someday, maybe, this can be sorted out properly.

That sounds like extreme inefficiency, or maybe I'm bias due to being around a long time. I'm not particularly fast or gifted with a high WPM typing speed (I don't break 100wpm when there are some people here who are in 130 range), but it rare takes me more than 3-5 minutes to tag one of my harpies even with my fantastic ability to get distracted by every little weird thing I see (adhd).

If you want to get over the hump, maybe try figuring out a tagging project, like gardening common mistake tags or the like.

Not directed at the above, but the general zeitgeist of this thread:

Builder promotions are also somewhat based off recent behavior and merit. Sometimes, people with strong numbers that would make them eligible for Builder or higher are known for inflammatory actions that cause promotions to pass them by. This doesn't mean a failed BUR or one or two mistags, this means chronic tagging errors when AI or script tagging or constant obviously bad BURs. Builder gives a lot more technical permissions than tag searches and seeing uoooh content. You need to be able to demonstrate that those permissions aren't going to be a problem.

I don't know how long it typically takes other users, but it usually takes me about 5 minutes to fully tag my posts, and they average to about 40 manually-added tags per post. It will sometimes take a bit longer if I have to look up the proper usage of a tag or find one for something I don't know how to tag. I usually tag things in a specific order (for example, artist/copyright, then hair/eyes, then clothes, then background details) and take advantage of implications and the drop-down menu with tag suggestions. I also always use a computer keyboard to type the tags.

Yeah had the same problem with my first uploads. You get faster when you learn to spot obvious things to tag. Remember that you can also place the cursor on a tag and then unfold the sidebar and it will show you common related tags.

What I find more frustrating is getting posts approved when everyone just clicks "disinterest".
