"Just become a builder" yeah, no. Lmao
I don't think there's anything wrong with how the Builder is distributed, but telling someone to basically "Just upload a 1000 arts and pray you won't get some of them deleted!" is not a solution either. Some people are here to build, some are to just browse AND THAT'S FINE. It's a choice everyone can make for themselves. The problem is that before there was an alternative. You don't wanna work and make the site better? Alright, then at least pay for and make things easier for the owner/host. That's gone now. The only way to get EVEN slight change like more tags in the search bar is to work ur ass for half a year (or even more lol) which is something that just not everyone has time to do. And again, that's completely fine, just give people an alternative to that.
I also just hate the "please be patient" argument, like bro this thread is 1,5 years old. Whether it's easy or hard to resolve this issue is not for me to say, because I am not qualified to say that. But there is no way there isn't even an alternative for the payment system? Patreon? Ko-fi? Anything man, really anything.
I'm completely agreeing with what you are saying here, I think thats a fair assessment and I agree that while the situation isn't anybodys fault (in the community), that trivialising it isn't a solution either.
I just want to add, the thing that keeps me from "just becoming a builder" is that the scope in which a user is able to contribute and obtain the builder status as a result is rather limited.
If I could somehow get the builder status by helping to properly tag everything, awesome. I enjoy doing that, immensly. The hunt for missing tags, learning how things are weighed and categorized here, the thrill of trying to figure out if something is an OC or from an existing property...it's not for everyone but I really enjoy it, unlike looking up and uploading hundreds of pictures.
But according to the feedback I got to my question regarding the matter, its very unlikely to get builder status by helping to tag. And don't get me wrong I understand why that is how it is and it makes perfect sense to me. But it's kinda disappointing to me that the way I WANT to contribute to the site will probably never result in obtaining the builder status.
That being said its also, in my opinion, not unproblematic for the sites ecosystem if the main thing thats being rewarded is uploading, not tagging. Because thats encouraging people to just upload more and more things. And while there is, in my opinion, a very effective approval and quality control system in place that prevents this site from being flooded by low effort pictures, this still causes another problem.
At a certain point, what actually makes pictures available to the end user is the tagging, not the uploading. Because all the pictures in the world won't help you if you can't FIND something. And sadly, most people seem to be more interested in uploading the maximum number of pictures and not so much in properly tagging them. Which makes sense to me honestly if we look at what we as a community reward and what not.
Again, thats NOT criticism, there are very good reasons why the system works how it works, but I'm seeing this as an unfortunate side effect, and I thinks its amplified by the situation of the gold status not being optainable.
