Changing touhou tag to full name

Danbooru has a history for trying to keep their tags precise, and the full name of the series is "Touhou Project".

Edit: another better example would be topic #16770.

I think "the software might fuck up" shouldn't be an argument on whether the change to the full name is correct or not. In worst case scenario, i think Danbooru can rollback a BUR, but i'd like to ask for confirmation.

But, since you asked, nowadays we always add full names to copyright tags and alias nicknames/shortened versions, so i think it should be done for the touhou tag too.

No, not always. There's Pokemon SwSh and Xenoblade 1 for recent examples. (Neither Xenoblade Chronicles 1 nor Xenoblade 1 is the actual name.)

Incidentally, howto:copyright points out how subtitles can be omitted, and aside from that there's stuff like Kochikame that aren't the full name.

The point is we have exceptions, because we make exceptions.

It's the official name, it's also how any site refers to it. There's as much merit in this as any other alias to the main name. We don't use "fgo" or "kancolle" as main tags.

Previous alias request got rejected in the middle of discussion without reason by a builder with barebones activity, locking the score.
This exists in order to keep the score going.

I think just Touhou is OK rather than Touhou Project.

Fun fact... We used to have longer Pokémon tags, like pokemon heartgold and soulsilver and pokemon black and white. They were discussed in topic #7747, back in 2011. I think it was because of that old discussion that we introduced abbreviated Pokémon tags like pokemon rgby, which we still use.

I created some abbreviated movie tags like pokemon_m01, pokemon_m02, etc. and anime season tags like pokemon_bw_(anime). I think I deleted a few tags which used the full names like pokemon_best_wishes and pokemon:_kimi_ni_kimeta!.

Just to be clear, please don't use full names for Pokémon games. But as an example, if we really wanted long tags with every detail, Pokémon tags would often include the word "version": pokemon_rgby would be pokemon_red,_green,_blue,_and_yellow versions. Or in Japanese: pocket_monsters_aka,_midori,_ao,_special_pikachu. (but really it's just an example, abbreviations for Pokémon tags are fine)

Difference with the pokemon tags is that those still include the full name, even though abbreviated. "touhou" is just half the official name.

Alright, I think I get it. Like how "TP" is a potential abbreviation for the whole name "Touhou Project" (as well as toilet paper).

Though to be fair, some official Pokémon games use "Version" in the name. The full name of Pokémon Red is "Pokémon Red Version". I think pokemon_rgby is a nice abbreviation, but it doesn't include the "Version" so it's technically incomplete. (but we can keep using pokemon_rgby; that was just a comment, not an idea to change the tag)

You often see "_______ Project" or "Project _______" attached to franchises, simply as an LLC to encapsulate the copyright legally as a separate entity from whatever other companies or inividuals might be involved in its creation or development.

For example if you go to the main Idolmaster site, you see at the bottom that it's officially "Project Im@s" and "Project Cinderella" legally speaking, yet no one would call them that.

Everything attached to Evangelion gets attached to / labeled with "Project Eva".

I think for similar reason, it's fine to leave the "Project" off "Touhou Project" as being similarly redundant. It's also such a large and established tag, I think it'd be smarter to just leave it alone.

To be fair "Project IM@S" is actually how the franchise is called. There's even a wiki named after it: https://www.project-imas.com/wiki/Main_Page. A proper name to use on danbooru would be the_idolmaster_(series), though the idolmaster has been aliased years ago to the main tag without discussion.

I'm likewise fine with us not using the_idolmaster_(series), as that's not a phrase anyone uses to refer to the series, even if it does have an offical or legal designation. I agree with us not using contractions like "Kancolle" as the main tag (even though it's commonly used and officially sanctioned), but I also think that we can draw a line between common usage and legal designation.

I've always wondered why it was just "touhou" when most other copyright tags I see tend to go with the full name. Or rather, I figured it was for simplicity's sake but thought it was a little inconsistent.
As has been said above, we don't use "kancolle" as a tag for kantai_collection, or "grand order" or "fgo" for fate/grand_order, or "jojo's" for jojo_no_kimyou_na_bouken. I don't see the harm in having the full Touhou Project name as the copyright tag, especially considering anyone searching for "touhou" will just see the full name pop up in autocomplete.
