You don’t need to convert anything. Download the video like this: youtube-dl -f 248+251 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjaVOMyQEpI

Ooh, okay. I gotcha. Thanks. Why I didn't think of that sooner is beyond me, derp

Could we revert the UI change about "find artist" feature, that it doesn't show the full URLs below any more?

I often use this feature to find and copy artist's URLs or handles, but now it's very inconvenient to do so.

Not sure why it's changed in the first place, as you can see the right space is not used anyway.

You can always hover over the link which will show the full URL in the status bar. Additionally, you can also right-click and copy the link, and paste it wherever you need it.

I normally copy more than one of them :/ Also, it would much useful at a glance (especially sometimes I just want to see their handles on Twitter or Pixiv).

Anyway, my personal usage aside, why it got changed (just out of curiosity)?

There are no comments on commit 5448ae5, but if I were to guess using other recent commits and comments from albert, he's trying to streamline everything and remove what's not needed.

Also, FWIW, many other sites such as Twitter will truncate links once they exceed a certain width. Many times, like in the case of Twitter, they don't even give you the full link to hover over or copy from, instead using one of their shortened links like t.co.

Hmmm.... does anyone think it'd be a good idea to lift some of the restrictions regarding uploading video content? To my knowledge, the two limitations right now are:

  • Video must be < 25 MB (as per the site file limitations)
  • Video must be shorter than 2 minutes

The last point seems a little arbitrary, although I suppose I understand why it's in place (so we don't start uploading almost full clips of anime and the like, or something). It's just that poppoko is trying to mirror the JRA x kemono friends youtube video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EX_Fgi7vd5I so that I can provide a translation for it.

Whether that content is appropriate aside (as I think it's appropriate, given I uploaded post #2862022), I think we should perhaps lift some of these restrictions, as part of the site's appeal is its' liberty in content curation (whether that's a video or flash game).

At the very least, the video length restriction should be bumped up to 5 minutes (IMO), and the file size limitation... It's fine as is, albeit I think we could do to see it be bumped up higher given the prevalence of yandere samples that are still active because the full-size files are way too large. The 1080p + opus video is 34.1 MB in size, if anyone wanted to know.

It feels weird trying to turn an image gallery into another video hosting site. Why not use Youtube and its user-contributed subtitles feature? That’s what it’s there for. The subtitles also work in the time dimension, which translation notes don’t.

You do have a point...

shrug

I should actually contribute some user translations on YouTube using their official system, huh. Well, I'll apologize to him in advance and do as such. Still, I wonder if such a change would be desired. I know Renim uploads a decent number of anime clips, but perhaps that's an incidental thing.

@fireattack

I created a bookmarklet/userscript you could potentially use in forum #136245 in order to restore the artist URLs to their full length.

Thank you very much!

Unfortunately the user.js one doesn't seem to work with dynamically added content (i.e. after you put some new source URL in the field and hit "Artist" button).

I wasn't sure where to post this, but the "edit" button has suddenly disappeared on my end when it comes to editting tags on images. Did I hit some sort of limit or is there some sort of maintenance going on?

Oh, you're right. That's weird. At least you can still use the E shortcut or press the edit button below the post.

That said I hope that button gets returned.

I think it was removed because there's an edit button below the post.

Probably, but by that logic the favourite button in the sidebar should be removed too since we got this new shiny one. Not that I mind anyway.

I hid the favorite bar through CSS on my end because it got in the way of looking at the picture. If it was below the search bar below the image, then maybe it would be more tolerable.

Out of curiosity: Why was only(?) the Edit thingie removed?
There are also shortcuts for favoriting posts, but you can still click "Favorite". Will this also get removed soon or did it only hit "Edit" because...reasons?

“Reasons” possibly being that nobody ever uses desktop PCs with big screens anymore and everything must be mobile-friendly and fit for tiny screens. :P
I expect more changes in the future that will make Danbooru harder/more annoying to use on desktop systems or anything with a big screen.
