My First Gift
Now, I'd like you to remember the fun times, so instead of a weapon, here's something you can use in your normal life. Even after I'm gone, whenever that happens, this should stay with you. It's my favorite jacket, and my very first gift.
◆
I bought it without thinking about anything like whether it'd look good on me or wanting to show off for someone's benefit. Bright, easy, gentle colors... I shaped my heart and body in hopes of being a god who fit those colors.
That said, being a god, I figured desiring luxuries of human society would be...vulgar. It could demean my godly status, so I was really, really, REALLY patient! I almost bought it so many times, then didn't! But one day, when I was really feeling down in the dumps, they said...
"Please, take this. You remind me of someone who would have looked good in it."
I liked the hairpin too, of course, but the mention of reminding them of someone who would have looked good in it was what really made me happy. I could tell what that someone was like from the deep affection in their eyes. That's when this self-styled god, who hadn't learned to be confident yet, came to understand feelings like desire, temperance, and satisfaction from a job well done!
As for where my travels took me next, that's a story for another day. Maybe I'll tell you someday if you work hard to reward my faith in you. Even though it all ended in an instant...I had the biggest, sunniest smile on my face until the very end, didn't I?
