そう、これは何もない自分が貴方に応えることが出来るかもしれないという小さな証。

The siblings were indeed related by blood, but they couldn't have been further apart. The distance between them simply proved too great. That is, at least, what the younger brother thought of himself.

However, the only time his unreachable sister praised him was when he hunted using a shrike.

He couldn't have been more thrilled.

Even if his sister simply said it without thinking, even if it was a silly, offhanded comment, it still let him think there was something he could do to gain his sister's attention. This carving is tiny proof that someone who doesn't have much can still have the potential to live up to your feelings.
