Danbooru 2 upgrade on Feb 16, 2013

Posted under General

I'll voice my opinion. To be blunt, this all seems pointless. Pretty much everything that changed did it for the worse, maybe with a few ho-hum exceptions. Plus it's all buggy, unstable and unfamiliar, and sure that's gonna change, but it doesn't look like it's worth the effort since everyone was fine with the previous Danbooru. Yeah people may have been working hard on it, and it's hard to say your efforts were for nothing, but you're fixing what was not broken, so I'd say screw it revert and never try again.

Grrrr. Both Danbooru and Github are so goddamn slow. And I can't even edit my own post to say it, so here, NEW POST FULL OF FRUSTRATION.

I don't know if it's just 'lucky' coincidence, but even thumbnails take quite a while to load.

It seems that the post searching system is now alot worse than before. For example before I could write kogasa into the search engine and I would get hang_in_there,_kogasa_san. If I do that now I don't get anything. the only way find pools with the name of certain character in it, i.e. Yukari, is to already know the name of the pool, which defeats the purpose of a search system. Even though that the creator and description search boxes could be nice if they actually worked, as it currently stands it is vastly inferior to the previous version. Basically make it work or just change it back into the functioning previous version.

So if we already got the $20 upgrade do we have to pay $40 for platinum or just $20 since we already payed for an upgrade?
Also just checked subscriptions and they're still broken. (8:25 AM pacific). Also few people seem to be making notes(I have no idea why. I hope it's just because of technical difficulties).

I'd like to know the answer to this question as well.

Seems my wiki entry for How to tag legwear is now kaput.

Half of the site features are kaput. And I was right, regular members can't see status:deleted at all. That's awful, and my internet connection is playing tricks on me, so I can't even argue properly T_T

Do you mean I have to upgrade my account just to view my deleted uploads?
Or any uploads besides the recent 24 ones, cause that seems to be capped as well.

Holy hell, what's with these greedy policies?

The first is probably a bug and the second definitely is. They're getting fixed quick, so just wait a little.

Is this the final product? I'd like to know if I should bother visiting the site anymore.

It's not final at all. Give it a few more days.

danbooru suddenly became an eyesore.

This chair. This chair. THIS CHAIR.

...Personally, I think it'll be fine after getting rid of bugs, fixing layout pitfalls and debating about features we need, but it'll take months unless there's a place where we can do it properly. Github doesn't really seem fit for this purpose (except bugs ofc), and... well, did we see any response from devs in this thread?

I don't want to sound entitled, given that my contributions to the site are neglible at best, but apparently things are working for some people, while they don't work for me. This worries me, because it implies a problem on my end, when there was no problem at all before.

I am not literate when it comes to programming and making even minor adjustments to webrowsing. But I feel conflicted whether I should bring attention to my issues, becausee I don't want to be a bother and I understand that some hosts want to know if someone is having a problem with their site.

100/100

Anyway, I'm not touching ...this, until UI stops looking like pile of crap.

Yes, there were responses right after the upgrade. Currently, albert seems to be focusing on fixing bugs and inconveniences posted on Github, and he's going pretty quickly, having fixed 28 issues in the last hour. I don't think it will take months at that rate.

If you're having a problem, post it. If you don't post it, how is it going to get fixed?

Edit:
And GitHub is fine for very bad layout issues like the pool link not being in the navbar. I posted that on GitHub and it was just fixed.

The smart thing to do would be to treat this week as a public beta period, then revert the site to the previous version while Albert irons out the dictionary-sized pages of kinks in his own time. I doubt that will happen though.

Also, I noticed that I can change my username on the settings page. Is this for staff members only, or are people going to be changing their names left and right again?

So that long discussion about the importance of a reputation (whether it be good or bad) was just pissing in the wind, despite Albert even agreeing with it. Better start treating every new name with suspicion then.

I can think of one user with 7 positive records and no negatives that did irreparable damage to the site, so I don't give a shit if you have no negative records. Since everyone's essentially faceless here, your username becomes your face, and it's annoying as hell having to relearn names, especially if they're indecisive and change names every week.
