Danbooru 2 upgrade on Feb 16, 2013

Posted under General

Please get rid of that ToS page; I'm not a cookie fan and I don't need sth. like that to browse Wikipedia or Google.
Took me almost ten minutes to post that comment.
Thank you, guys.
Edit: I also dislike that I get the downscaled versions of images. It's even worse than on gel, because there you have at least the option to opt for "always view original".
Sorry, I liked the old version better. A lot.

Updated

I was about to make a post full of RAGE and maybe even cursing when I saw how broken the site currently is.
But I was able to calm down while reading this thread, so now I'm going to sort through it once more, recheck mentioned problems and create new issues at Github for everything that needs fixing. Everything I can check at least, so this excludes mod queue and translation notes because I don't have access to the first and don't know too much about the second.

It would be very nice to see the site reverted to the old version until new one is fixed, it is literally unusable currently. But I somehow doubt this will happen. :(

Anyway, I encourage everyone to report new problems to the https://github.com/r888888888/danbooru/issues they are much more likely to get noticed that way.
Just give me some time before making new issues because as I've already said I'll try to sort through this thread and report thing that were already mentioned.

Thank you for that. I'll probably join you tomorrow, bug squashing is always fun :3

- Every time I open the site I have to re-accept the TOS (which is fine, I assume that's intentional) and have to log back in, which is a pain. It remembers my username and password (or my browser does) but makes me go click through to process the login. Clicking the remember checkbox doesn't seem to affect it.

The most annoying one out of them, in my opinion. Besides that, sometimes it won't even log me in. And when it does, the next page I go to, I ain't logged in anymore.

Blacklisted tags are now listed below the related tags in search queries. This is bad UI, as it makes a moving target out of important piece of information. It should stay in one place so that determining whether anything has been blacklisted doesn't require conscious thought.

There's no more "Edit" link in the post sidebar, so I need to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the image. Moreover, not only are the "favourite" and "recent" tag lists gone, the edit box is no longer focused by default, and it doesn't capture Enter to submit. So what used to a single click affair in oldbooru now requires me to switch between keyboard and mouse, twice. This is incredibly clunky.

it doesn't capture Enter to submit.

This is the one of the things I approve of, for a change. No more accidental submitting.
Capturing something like ctrl+Enter for submitting would be nice, though, if it's possible.

- The search query being browsed is no longer shown anywhere on the post list page. It's important information and should be put back in the header.

- Argh, "Quote" now deletes any text I have already entered in the comment box, what the hell!? It makes it impossible to respond to several people, and is a fantastic way to lose your already typed text because programmatic changes are not recorded in the undo buffer (at least not in Chrome) and you can't Ctrl+Z through them.

- DText bullet list formatting (with *) is completely borked. Lists aren't generated at all.

I don't care about accidental submits. These happened maybe a couple of times in total for me, whereas I submit intentionally hundreds of times a day. It needs to be fast and not require me to switch away from the main row. If you do submit accidentally, you can just go back and correct it.

I see 10 + 7 - 1 - 0 = 16. Seems correct to me.

Yes, it seems correct.

But some things don't make sense:
approved: (75 / 10)
uploads: 75
deleted: 4

My approved images should be (71 / 10) last time I checked before the upgrade.

Whoops now I see it. My apologies.

it doesn't capture Enter to submit.

This is one of the major things I don't like about the new changes

You still have the option to "always view original".
Settings > Default image size: original.

Er..how to find a inactive pool?
'cuz they used to be in the pools list, but now, though they still exist, I can't find them on any list and neither on the pics in them. :/
It should be great if they can be included again in the pools list :/

I believe I shall provide an example of the issue I face.

http://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/1362067

ON MY SCREEN: There is no longer the "transparent yellow box thing" over the Japanese text. I click "Note", and it auto-jumps to the top of the page. I then click the picture (like a bunch of people are telling me to) and... nothing happens. Nothing at all. I scroll down, below the picture, below the comments, and right below the "Text Body" box (I.E. what I'm typing this in right now before I hit "Submit") is the translation, right on top of "Before editing, read the how to tag guide."

On pics with lots of translated stuff (like http://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/899904), which USED TO have a bunch of little transparent yellow note-boxes, each one over a block of text with a translation for said block of text, there is nothing. Smushed below everything, like in the above pic, is PART OF the translations, all kerfuckled together, with big chunks missing.

Are these problems affecting anyone else?

I don't have a problem seeing the existing note on this page, nor do I have any troubles creating a new note. What browser are you using? I've got Firefox 18.0.1 here.

ETA: It shows up fine on Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 as well. Ditto Google Chrome.

ETA2: I looked back a few pages and you mentioned you're using IE7. Sorry to say this, but time to upgrade.

1. While I've been thinking of upgrading to IE8, I've been hearing nothing but BAD THINGS about IE9, with nearly everything I read regarding upgrading to it from 7 or 8 boiling down to "Don't do it".

2. I don't know the process of switching to Chrome or Firefox. And I've heard/read here & there that some sites that work with IE won't work with Chrome or Firefox, and that you can't transfer Favorites or the "Remember Me" option some sites have.

I know I said my uploads was capped (according to my profile), but apparently not.
10 + 585 - (678/4) - pending:22 = capped:20

I've uploaded 29 images so far today, of which 7 are approved at this time.
You may want to check it's actually working, or correct the formula.

Incidentally, does parent:#### work on the upload since the parent box is gone? I know it can't be used on the moebooru variant.

It seems to be a bug that inactive pools act like they're deleted. You can't find them without a link to their page. I reported this on the issue tracker already, hopefully it gets fixed soon.

See the post I just made here.

Outside of the odd issue with compatibility that happens maybe 1% of the time at most I never had issues with "Remember Me" or the like.

On the flip side some sites flat out work better with FF or Chrome and you have better security under FF/Chrome then IE.

we can get back the order:favcount? because order:score is useless and untruthful. i used to check for new posts daily with "date:2013-02-18 order:favcount", now i can't do it, if danbooru2 must be a de-evolution i prefer the first version.

I'm relieved to hear that it wasn't on purpose :D
Otherwise, thousands of pools would be dumped into the abyss of Danbooru :/

Hmm. After doing one of my runs through the forums I have the following feedback. I'll preface this by saying that, yes, I know I should have checked out Danbooru 2 before it went live, and given some of this feedback before it went live, but I just didn't have time. Oh and I'm sure some of these have been mentioned but goddamn 14 pages already.

Moderation-related
The most problematic issues for me are in aliases and implications.

1. Underscores are being automatically removed from linked tags, e.g. suzumiya_haruhi_no_yuuutsu. I typed underscores there, but when I submit there won't be any.
This no doubt seems trivial to others, but the problem is that 95% of what I do is copy/pasting posts into the batch jobs list to submit multiple aliases at once. Now I need to manually re-add underscores between every word of every tag I implicate or alias.

2. Lack of feedback when submitting aliases and implications. I could be missing something, but after I do one I:
• Often don't see any message for whether it worked
• Don't get redirected to the jobs page
• Can't actually find the jobs page anymore, or at least the one I try (/delayed_jobs) generally comes back with "something broke"

3. Alias/Implication threads no longer have the "Create" link at the top of the page. Many threads have more than one request in which case it doesn't help anyway and it was broken before Danbooru 2 so I always used the batch job page, but if it's been fixed (rather than removed) I'd definitely use it again.

4. Deleted posts link is gone. I used that quite a lot, especially when tag scripting a tag change, to make sure I caught all images. It was also a handy way of checking for images that might warrant a second chance at approval.

Other things
1. "Resize" option is gone. I loooooooooooved that. I don't really like the new resize option that shows a max-850px sample because it's less flexible. The automatic resize that matched my browser width was awesome, because I could always show originals and the occasional highres image that didn't fit horizontally would fit automatically. I desperately miss this feature more than I can put into words.

2. I don't know how to re-type an empty tag anymore. I think I'm missing something obvious. I also don't know how to make a tag General anymore. gen: and general: don't work. Before I would always make something general from the main tag list page.

3. Searching aliases/implications using wildcards does not work for me.

4. I rather miss the reply number column on the main forum listing.

5. Wiki pages don't show the six sample posts unless there's a wiki for the tag. I really miss this feature too, because it was a very nice quick way to get a glance of what was in the tag without actually going to the post listing for it.

Issues with the User Feedback page (formerly Records):

The records are currently being sorted primarily by Category, the Date secondary. Before, the records were simply sorted by the Date issued. Going through the pages, Neutral records are being displayed first, followed by Positive, then Negative at the back.

As Hillside Moose pointed out, all of the records are no longer color-coded. Returning the color-coded records would be helpful and easier on the eyes.

Having the color-coding back would be nice. Even among all my positive feedbacks, however, they appear to be jumbled randomly, datewise, so there's no secondary sorting apparent.

In addition, there's no longer a "Comments" section in the User Profile page. Could that be reinstated, please? It was handy for following responses, spotting & correcting minor typos, etc.
