I take this here to not hijack the deletion appeal thread

As a general rule (that yes is violated constantly) we don't really want full doujins uploaded here. its just not what we're here for. There are better places for such things.

there is no better place than here to catalogue and read raw doujinshis. Besides, this booru has the biggets translator comunity that i know and anyone can apply to it. It's almost like a wikipedia. Open space for anyone that want to contibute.

o Doujinshi (especially long doujins covering many pages), must be a high quality untranslated raw. Please make it clear that you are uploading a long series if you have a download limit by grouping the pages into a pool.

if the conditions are fulfill there shoudn't be anthing bad with it

We have these same stupid complaints enough in the Upload Feedback Thread as it is; someone lock this thread...

if you don't have anything constructive to say then don't say it. It's obvious you are pissed by my comments but it shows maturity to talk over it without going to the "shut the fuck up, i don't care what you think" attitude.

The fact that I'm a Janitor and you aren't.

QED

I don't beleive in janitor criteria of judgement, specially after seeing janitor uploads. Maybe you aren't of that kind, but as i said, people complain all the time about your ways cause they judge then to be biased.

i will not start pointing names, specially because they are the same as me, people that likes the images they upload. You can obviously have an standard but when that standard is violated by the same people that is supossed to protect it, you start being a little confused about the criteria of the mod college.

Fencedude said:
You don't really seem to get how utterly unoriginal your complaints are and how much we do not give a shit that you think this is unfair.

We know its unfair. Thats the point.

Hey, i'm talking these cause a lot of people think the same way. Does that make it an invalid statement?

and if it's unfair, why don't you do something about it? will you then recognize that Danbooru is made for the mod college and all the people who works for making this booru better are just being used for your private tastes?

We aren't interested in making it fair. Its not something we want in the slightest. And if this pisses off some people and they stop posting, well, someone else will upload most of what they would have done, if your posts are such amazingly high quality that you are the only one who can provide them, you wouldn't think we were unfair, because your posts would go through.

There is a problem: People dislike the way the mod college treat the approval process cause they think it's biased (and it's really biased considering what you can find approved).

And bias is the entire point of having standards in the first place. It is completely impossible to have standards of quality without being biased. It's just that simple.

That's what you're failing to understand, here. Danbooru is not here to cater to everybody's tastes. The standards of quality we adhere to aren't what everyone likes, but it is what's in line with the site owner's (and moderation staff's) tastes, and that's what matters.

  • If albert really doesn't want something here, it's gone. He's the site's owner, and he has the right to do whatever he wants with it.
  • If the mods really don't want something here, it's gone. They're given authority by albert to do what they feel needs to be done.
  • If none of the approval staff approve of something, it's gone. There are a lot of Janitors on staff, with a large variety of tastes, and if something goes through the mod queue - twice, if you appealed it - and doesn't get approved, that means it was just not good enough for Danbooru, and you should accept it and move on.

If this isn't to your liking, then... Well, the internet is a very big place, and I'm certain there are plenty of other sites for you to go where you can get your jollies.

The solution: a) taking into consideration people tastes cause it's unfair to only take in consideration your tastes and that is per se a despicable attitude.

You act like the Janitor staff are all just one person. You're wrong.
As I said before, there are dozens of Janitors. Think about that. Dozens of people, each with their own individual tastes, and if just one of them thinks an image belongs on Danbooru, it can stay.

b) open the mod college and let enter people that isn't your friends. I got badly impressed when i saw that you have to literally worship the mod college to get something more than a member account in this imageboard. Very despicable.

You're wrong here, also.
Priveleged accounts are mostly those who paid the one-time fee to upgrade their account. US$20 is not too much to ask, if you're that interested in Danbooru. Some users get a free promotion because they contributed significantly to the site in some way (translation, coding assistance, etc.).

Beyond that, though, the accounts gain increasing ability to muck up the site. Contributors (and higher) must be hand-picked by albert, not because of nepotism, but because these users must be judged trustworthy enough not to muck up the site.

And please, stop with the petulance and the "despicable" crap. It's getting old, fast.

well, i will stop here since our positions are so entrenched. Anyway, i can't go against you mainly because i'm the guy who will loose invariably in this situation. I just had the will to let you know how i feel about this policy. And with luck, maybe help changing it.

will you change it if 500 users were to say the same thing in the same thread? i don't think so, cause as you said, danbooru isn't a place for everybodies tastes. So if it's not for the tastes of users...

as for the selection of the mod and contributor college. It's nepotism cause they are handpicked, and obviously they have to agree with the official policies to be picked. But also as you stated, this is Albert's booru; it's without any doubt that he (with the work of his companions, the mods) has made all the work done in this booru. People just come in and watch the images.

And guys, i can't talk in another way. For starters, cause my native language isn't english, and second, cause that's what i think and a lot of people think. You even recognize it's unfair and those adejctives describe the situation exactly as it is.

you are free to close this thread.

Oskar, if you've lurked for a while, you'd know that Danbooru isn't a democracy. If it was, everyone would post their shitty yukkuri art and other garbage, and it'd have to be approved, thus cluttering the site with shit, and making everyone wade through the shit pool to find good art. What gets approved around here is based on what the approvers like, not what you like. If something you like didn't get approved, it isn't necessarily because it was garbage, but because none of the approvers liked it. If your art continually gets deleted, the mods don't have to change their tastes, you have to change yours. I hope that was polite enough.

Oskar, I don't think you'll have much luck finding 500 users who agree with you. Anybody who feels as strongly as you do that the way this site is run is totally wrong will probably not hang around very long once they learn it's not likely to change.

it's a figure of speech. But you have to take into consideration that most people simply let it pass or fear the retaliations they may experience by complaining. just see what it's written on the wiki about how you must behave when you are dealing with a mod :s

OskarVanBruce said:

Uhh...the Wiki doesn't say anything about how you should act when dealing with a moderator.

Also, you seriously don't get that this site doesn't work on popular opinion, and it doesn't really matter how many people dislike how we do things.

I wouldn't be quite as blunt as Fencedude, but he is right.

After getting clarification, the enforcement against doujin isn't going to change and is something that is in place for a good reason.

I haven't really seen a case, though, Oskar of a good picture, as in a really good picture, not getting through. Generally what fails are pieces that are objectively terrible, either because of bad anatomy, or things that are just so bland that they won't be missed.

I don't understand why you are upset, however, since there are two threads dedicated to appeal. One of them even gives you the option of asking why certain things aren't appealed.

There are a many, many chances for something to get approved because there is a large janitor staff, the appeal thread, the second appeal thread, moderators, if they feel like approving it, and a good indicator even before you upload is how many of pieces of that artist, or similar pieces, were uploaded, and what the feedback is, where applicable, from the site where its from.

Another problem with Pixiv, to my knowledge although I might be wrong, is that scores are pretty unreliable since there is a tendency to upvote either out of politeness or some other reason not related to the quality of the work. For Danbooru, favorites and score are by no reason a reliable way to determine if something will be approved, but a negative score is generally going to be bad.

I don't agree with Fencedude that Danbooru is elitest, but the janitors and the staff are picked from the userbase, and are generally friendly and willing to say what they think of a post, honestly, and its chances of approval. I wouldn't bug them over every post, since that would get annoying.

Danbooru had a quality-control system, its going to be unfair and biased but its going to prevent what happens in One Yukkuri Place, when you have large, large, very large, amount of crap posts.

edit: Sorry for wall-of-texting, its just annoying when people get upset by thinking that the "man" is against them when its generally their fault. I am willing to admit that most, if not all, of my yukkuri pictures, which are what I originally fought for, are crap.

I upload doujins sometimes, but then I translate them myself. Eventually...

Anyway, I wouldn't say there's a strict rule against it, I suppose.

EDIT: seems there's some discussion about this on the forum right now, so this post was pretty pointless, sorry about that, haha.
