I wouldn't be quite as blunt as Fencedude, but he is right.
After getting clarification, the enforcement against doujin isn't going to change and is something that is in place for a good reason.
I haven't really seen a case, though, Oskar of a good picture, as in a really good picture, not getting through. Generally what fails are pieces that are objectively terrible, either because of bad anatomy, or things that are just so bland that they won't be missed.
I don't understand why you are upset, however, since there are two threads dedicated to appeal. One of them even gives you the option of asking why certain things aren't appealed.
There are a many, many chances for something to get approved because there is a large janitor staff, the appeal thread, the second appeal thread, moderators, if they feel like approving it, and a good indicator even before you upload is how many of pieces of that artist, or similar pieces, were uploaded, and what the feedback is, where applicable, from the site where its from.
Another problem with Pixiv, to my knowledge although I might be wrong, is that scores are pretty unreliable since there is a tendency to upvote either out of politeness or some other reason not related to the quality of the work. For Danbooru, favorites and score are by no reason a reliable way to determine if something will be approved, but a negative score is generally going to be bad.
I don't agree with Fencedude that Danbooru is elitest, but the janitors and the staff are picked from the userbase, and are generally friendly and willing to say what they think of a post, honestly, and its chances of approval. I wouldn't bug them over every post, since that would get annoying.
Danbooru had a quality-control system, its going to be unfair and biased but its going to prevent what happens in One Yukkuri Place, when you have large, large, very large, amount of crap posts.
edit: Sorry for wall-of-texting, its just annoying when people get upset by thinking that the "man" is against them when its generally their fault. I am willing to admit that most, if not all, of my yukkuri pictures, which are what I originally fought for, are crap.
