I've been a long time lurker so of course I don't meet any contribution requirements for any of the privileged levels.
Genuinely I don't have the time or patience for uploading and tagging. My regular job makes that an even more unappealing proposition, that's generally what the payment option is for.
It'd be nice to have an option that doesn't involve making a part-time job out of it to make an old site a bit more usable with the extra tags. Or at least as others have said, update the paywalls to reflect that there's seemingly no interest or likelihood in restoring the ability to pay.

issue #5598 may """solve""" this (please note the quotation marks), but a PR with text changes is the maximum that I can do as an user and as a dev, everything else is handled by the admins

Compared to this mojang devs seems like the hardest workers ever
Danbooru's code is open source and open to contribution. If you think that Danbooru's devs are "lazy" (I don't think that any danbooru's dev are paid and they work on a voluntary basis unlike Mojang's ones) feel free to contribute or just open an issue on github.

It's quite frustrating when you want to see something specific and you know you could if you just had one more tag
Yeah, this is still the biggest issue I have. Even just bumping the tag limit from 2 to 3 would help some searches greatly. Things like exclusions, artist tags, solo, animated, translated, etc. all count towards the limit which leaves you with a single usable tag for searching. Being able to browse more effectively is all I really care about.

This.
Also, I am not a danbooru developer nor ruby/RoR is my main language, I am just someone who got a spare time to look into an issue from another user here (every place here mentioning Gold to end in a "not available" button), agree with him, study Danbooru's MVC and write a Pull Request with my commits
Any future chance of raising max tags to 3? Sometimes what a user is looking for can't be thorough enough with only 2 tags. Like if you were looking for character + white footwear + heels for example, otherwise their searches without heels would be full of other shoes and whatnot.
Hi there! :) I've recently joined and am trying to engage with tagging -correcting and adding tags. And i wonder if its possible to reach Builder Status via tagging alone, since I don't feel like uploading stuff, simply because I am not sure how to find pictures worth uploading that wouldn't be derivative, like low quality pictures or pictures of obscure franchises/artists people have no interest for.
Would be great if someone could answer this question for me :)

Welcome! ^^
Getting Builder via tag edits can be tricky. A large number of tag edits doesn't mean much because there's no way to know just how many of those tag edits are good. It stinks, but we do get a lot of trolls here.

I understand, thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question! :)
If I may ask a follow up question, since uploading pictures seems like the best way to get the Builder Status, how on earth do people find good sources to get pictures that are worthwile uploading, that aren't just ripped from other boorus, etc? I would appreciate some advice, maybe I'm making this way to complicated in my head.

Of course! Always happy to help.
As for finding artists to upload... Personally, I would go to the pixiv page of a piece you really like and scroll down to the recommended section.
I recommend the Pixiv Image Searches and Stuff userscript to assist in this process, as it will tell you whether or not an image is already on the site or not.
You can find PISAS (and a guide for Greasemonkey/Tampermonkey) on the about:userscripts page.

Again thanks for the advice! :) Think I'll start uploading soon.
