"Get Danbooru Gold" button doesn't work.

Honestly, there's a good chance the whole paid upgrade system has just been silently retired. If so, I'd guess it's because it was decided that the amount of money it would bring in is not worth the trouble, and they'll just exclusively hand out upgrades in occasional giveaways or contests from now on.

...or it's a ploy to get people to aggressively improve the site by trying to earn builder status as there's no other option now.

Running a site isn't free, least of all one like this. If they were retiring the current monetization system, they would need another one to replace it. I don't know what they're planning, but giveaways and more bad tag editing to clean up isn't going to keep the site running.

That's what I've been wondering: if they haven't been able to accept any sort of payments for at least nine months now, what's paying for the servers?

I'm assuming that sort of info won't be made public, but given the time frame of the situation, I can't help but be curious about it.

Reserve funds. Danbooru made more in gold purchases than the servers cost to run and the extra is paying for the servers now that gold purchases are unavailable.

I checked the user list and I apparently wildly underestimated the number of people who were actually buying upgrades.

Either way, it doesn't seem like there's going to be updates on when it'll be functional again, and I don't have the efficiency to be a builder, so at this point I'm going to live with the limitations and stop worrying about it.

No worries this website won't last that long sankakucomplex.com you can become a builder in less then a month and gelbooru is free and sells merch.

No thanks. Having used both of those sites, they're dumpster fires with no real quality or tagging standards. Gelbooru in particular also purposefully made the user experience as obnoxious as possible for people who run any kind of ad blocking.

Also, Danbooru has been around for over 17 years; I think they'll be fine.

Well at least those sites don't have missing artworks like here. And there is blacklists.

I dunno about Sankaku complex, though I rarely hear good things about it, but Gelbooru just uploads most of its good art from Danbooru, so if you can't see it here you probably can't see it there, and what it does have that Danbooru doesn't is usually pretty shit. I sure do enjoy pages and pages of live action porn in all my searches.

Not sure what you mean by blacklists, Danbooru has that, too, and you can't possibly be suggesting that as a negative.

Let's be honest here: Gelbooru is just about the same but the actual biggest difference is the artists we ban here for takedown reasons can almost entirely still be seen there. And we all know extremely good artists make up the banned list here. Let's not pretend "if it isn't here it isn't good" everyone here that regularly uses this site sees how often people don't approve good art because they don't like futa/chubby girls/don't like a particular artist/ etc.

Regardless though I assume danbooru is going to be alright since they haven't actually said anything about the situation recently.

This but also we will never know if danbooru money is running low it's been a year and maintenance cost is usually high.

Personally what im confused about. How can sankaku, with all of its highly questionable content (that even danbooru would never allow), have access to payment processors, but danbooru doesnt?
Its kind of absurd but hopefully a work around can eventually be found.

I'm not up-to-date on all of the lore, but as I understand it, it comes down to the Danbooru owner not wanting to work with some of the less-reputable, "high-risk" payment processors. Sankaku, on the other hand, is more than happy to work with whoever will take them. IDK if or when we'll ever get a workaround, or a different payment processor, but it's frankly silly that this has gone on for the better part of a year with basically no news outside of a forum thread full of "yeah it's not actually a problem, just become a contributor".

Well that owner should hurry I doubt they have that much money to keep the servers going.

I want to say that if there really was a crisis they'd be treating it as one and doing their damndest to find an option. 17 years to build a community for one of the best image aggregators ever, it's not something one throws away lightly. That's my hope anyway. Also I would have assumed it's just bad luck. Pixiv was forced to alter their ToS recently because of payment processors but not other sites. Sometimes it's just wrong place wrong time.

How long must we wait? I am tired of being limited to only 2 tags per search. Can't the owner just make the upgrades to be free and then block them again when the paying method is fixed? Is not fair for non-gold accounts that wanna purchase it but can't because of this.
