Disambiguating pepper

Posted under Tags

Currently, the pepper tag is in a rather confusing state, being an ambiguous tag meant to refer to the spice, a disambiguation page for Chicchana Yukitsukai Sugar's Pepper, and as an implication for bell pepper. Three different things at once? I think a cleanup is in order.

My proposal is that the implication should be removed first since peppercorns (Piper nigrum) and bell peppers (Capiscum annuum) are hardly the same thing from a genus standpoint. The plain pepper tag should be deprecated and made a disambiguation page, while a new tag like pepper (spice) and/or peppercorn (if we want to differentiate the full fruit vs. the sprinkled condiment) ought to be created. Thoughts on this?

On a side note with bell pepper, there are also green pepper, orange pepper, red pepper and yellow pepper if we want them implicated to the first tag. Or do we want them to be specified as green bell pepper, orange bell pepper, etc.?

EDIT: I also want to ask about if it's necessary to make a tag for sliced bell peppers like post #560190, post #1671044 (top of image) and post #3649915.

Updated

As an additional side note, while going through the various pepper-related images and gardening them, I created the jueyun chili pepper (genshin impact) tag to refer to the in-game chili pepper. Since I'm not familiar with the game, I accidentally removed pepper from some Genshin Impact posts that I shouldn't have. I'll make sure this is corrected, but any help in this would be appreciated.

This makes me wonder if there should be a compilation of Genshin Impact characters and terms/items to differentiate these in-universe foods from actual foods. Again, I don't know anything about the game, so this would be better handled by someone with more familiarity.

remove implication bell_pepper -> pepper

I did some gardening with the pepper tag, populating the pepper (spice) and peppercorn tags a bit to at least start disambiguating all of the various pepper-related tags. I would like to work towards deprecating pepper and making it a disambiguation page, but this implication needs to be removed first.

That seems like a real overkill. Who'd ever search for pepper colors??

Probably not a lot here, but the distinction between green, red and yellow holds a lot of weight elsewhere.

I did notice that green peppers tend to be associated with picky eating (post #2660963, post #3649915), so there is at least that symbolism. I personally don't see the problem with separate colors, but while implications to bell pepper may be admittedly a bit much, another alternative is aliasing the colors to the base vegetable.
