Changes to the voting system

There have been several major changes to the voting system. In summary:

• All users can now vote on posts. Before only Gold users could vote. Now everyone with an account can vote. You can create an account here if you don't already have one.
• On the main page, there's a new "..." menu in the top right. You can click on that and choose "Show scores" to show scores and vote buttons beneath thumbnails. This lets you vote on posts from the thumbnail page.
• Upvotes are now public by default.
• You can see who upvoted a post by hovering over the score or clicking on it. This also shows how many people downvoted it. Note that downvoter names aren't public, but they are visible to admins.
• You can see who favorited a post by hovering over the favcount or clicking on it. Before seeing who favorited a post was a Gold-only feature; now everyone can see it.
• You can search e.g. upvote:evazion to see yours or someone else's upvotes.
• You can browse the post votes page to see all recent upvotes.
• You can browse the favorites page to see all recent favorites.
• You can make your favorites and upvotes private by turning on "Private favorites and upvotes" in your account settings.
• Making your favorites and upvotes private is now a Gold-only feature. This is to prevent abuse. If your favorites were private before, but you don't have a Gold account, then they will remain private as long as you don't disable the private favorites setting. If you disable it, then you'll need a Gold account to make them private again.
• Private favorite groups are now also a Gold-only feature. If you're not a Gold user, and you already had private favgroups before, then they will remain private as long as you don't make them public. If you make a private favgroup public, then you'll need a Gold account to make them private again.
• Banned and Restricted users can no longer favorite or upvote posts. Your account will be restricted if you signup from a proxy or VPN and don't verify your email address.

This is absolutely great for many users. This was a good idea (and only if it wasnt 01:16)

Yes, this way if any artists come to this website to check how many votes a specific picture/illustration has received, they will be able to see votes from a much wider pool of viewers. Good job 👍.

This is great. An interesting result is that this might reduce favorites, but increase upvotes on some illusts.

This will bring more votes in the future (reddit style).

However I suggest admin can consider to limit the age of account before provide votes (ie 24 hour before full account activation). This is to prevent socket accounts to spam votes.

I think that was a typo, the code shows it applies to both upvotes and downvotes.

I think some people would find it helpful if making favorites private and making upvotes private were two separate settings; would also allow people to use the original behaviour for their account. Might see a lot more private favs now if people previously upvoted really objectionable stuff but avoided faving it.

+1. Alternatively it would be nice to be able to have one favgroup featured on the user page like uploads and favorites are.

Yeah, I have the same feeling that the ability to make your favs private and your votes private should be split.

I wouldn't really say it's an alternative, though that's a cool additional idea, too. But it gets into the new territory of profie customization which we don't really have aside from hiding favs. Might also complicate the user page because the displayed fav group isn't really about the user, it's just one of their galleries; for most users, I'd probably want to hide it. We don't even have an "about me" section to enter text about yourself! But it might be best that way.

I'm really happy about this. I'm considering a gold account as it's a reasonably priced one-time payment, but being able to vote on images now is great! I hope the feature sees more use going forward :)

I mean, I think an "about me" page/paragraph would be a nice addition. Pixiv has one, and I think it would be a solid addition. Personalization goes a long way, and if nothing else, it serves as a reminder that everyone here is a unique person with thoughts and feelings. In my mind, that can only be positive

So I suggest one way to prevent this(indiscriminate down-voting). One community site I use increases a number of times I can vote down by a number of up-votings. The point is to allow users to vote up and down according to their taste, but to limit a number of down-votings. This way not only reduces indiscriminate down-voting but also helps make a healthy and positive culture because up-voting should precede down-voting.

On the other hand, we are not a Social Network Site like Pixiv or Twitter.

Agree as well. In my opinion it should be a full wiki, if I'm not mistaken, new users need a full week for them to start uploading. Both are good suggestions.

That reduces the premium users bonuses....
