Danbooru 2 Issues Topic

Posted under General

This topic has been locked.

For a couple of days, I have noticed that Danbooru seems to be quite laggy when navigating through webpages, with pages often taking very long to finish loading. I am using Chrome (both desktop and mobile); other websites outside Danbooru loads fine, which implies it is an issue within the DB server.

Today, for example, after clicking submit when uploading a post, I have received the Bad Gateway error page for a few seconds after a notably long loading time than usual before being redirected to the uploads page instead of the new post's page. So far, it has happened to me twice.

Later, when reading topic #15329, it is mentioned that the website stalling is caused by one of the servers being broken. So, any news on when the fixes would be applied?

Could be something as simple as the fast rate of uploading, which means the servers need to keep up with change. Danbooru is rather wasteful of viewers' bandwidth as it is, what with all the duplication.

No that has nothing to do with it. It's likely an issue related to topic #15329.

Maybe not related to Danbooru 2 but i found that these 2 images have random artists listed as recommended, but when you click the source link, it actually is easonx's deviantart page:

I'm not understanding your point. It seems more like an observation than a problem. Of course there are duplicate artist entries, as currently there is no deconfliction when adding URLs to an artist entry. I do this deconfliction myself manually when creating a new artist, but not everybody does.

Automatic deconfliction can't really be a thing either though, since:

1. issue #2696 wasn't really fixed, so Danbooru WILL have plenty of false positives
2. Multiple artists can have the same URL as is the case with artist circles/projects/collaborations

As of right now, the only way to handle these duplicate artists is to accidentally stumble upon them and then fix them at that time.

Ok so, the thing is that the recommended artists are different than the one associated with the deviantart link.
The 2 other artists don't seem to have any similar links that should make them the suggested artist for these images, not sure why they would appear.

Edit, ok took a bit to understand what you mean, no they don't seem to be duplicate artists in any way.

What's going on is that post #1834334's raw image URL begins [nodtext]http://fc04.deviantart.net[/nodtext] and captainstrawberry's artist page includes the raw image URL [nodtext]http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2012/025/7/7/berri_by_captainstrawberry-d4njoen.jpg[/nodtext]. Something similar is happening with the other post and another artist. I know that twimg and pximg links aren't supposed to be included in artist pages to prevent false positives like these, but I don't know what the guidelines are for DeviantArt.

Okay, after looking into it a bit further, it seems that instead of renaming the artist entry, you created a new artist entry and transferred everything over to it, both URLs and posts, and then removed the URLs from the existing entry. In the future, it would be better to just rename it, or better yet, use a mass update or alias to change it, especially if the post count is high enough. Finally, if you are moving an artist manually, make sure to add status:any to the search string, as you had left two deleted posts with the previous name that I had to clean up. I also deleted that old entry as it is now effectively dead.

As for why the name was "wrong", well artists change their names all of the time, and frequently artist names get set by the first source they get uploaded from, which may not be their main name.

Edit:

After looking at fossilnix's comment, it seems like you were talking about the artist finder that shows up when you go to edit the tags on a post. I thought you were asking why the artist name was the way it was.

Thanks for getting it reported.

Looks like newer uploaded pics are rendering, but not the ones uploaded when the problem struck.

So I guess it will take awhile to get sorted?

I reported them in the image replacement thread (topic #14156/p15). Now it's just waiting for a moderator to replace them. Hopefully the source for those images won't be deleted in the meantime... :/

Great! I'll just wait for that to go through. I can reupload if the booru ate it.
