If it could do that much damage to the ship then why would it need to tear it open in the first place?

I know this is years old, but I figure others happening upon this may be interested to see the explenation that the author provided on Reddit.

Addendum 1: Why peel off armor if laser strong?

  • The ship's propellant tank and fuel bunker contribute most of the explosion.
  • The yield flash is preceded by a feeler flash to analyze how the target respons to different frequencies so the shot can be tailored to pass through most of it and reach deeper.
  • While Aster could, potentially, do this much damage without any help from inside, it would cause even more strain, force it into repairs for at least another month and cost the taxpayer about as much as this whole ship.

    Could you please source that?

I′ve put everything I could find into the commentary, excluding replies to comments by others and parts repeated across posts. It could probably be trimmed down more, but I′ll leave that to the discretion of someone more knowledgable in contributing.

And if you're wondering "why doesn't the host parents recognize the cuckoo isn't one of their own? They can just kick them out, right?" Well, sometimes the host parent DOES recognize the cuckoo isn't theirs. However, this is a VERY bad idea for the host.

In some cases if the cuckoo mother finds out the host rejected her child/egg, SHE'LL STRAIGHT UP MURDER THE HOST FAMILY AND THEIR NEST. In that case, raising the cuckoo chick is far less of a cost than the alternative. Cuckoos don't mess around.

I wonder if invisible people can see other invisible people?

Also ms. Invisible has a flaw in that plan, most monsters can still smell and hear your and you will leave an impression from the weight of your body on your bed.

I mean, if you can't see the other invisible-kind, then how do you even meet or choose your mate? Skimming Yellow Pages and hope they picked 'Invisible' as part of their names?

If light is passing through their bodies, then it's not hitting the retina which is the organ that turns light into electric signals the brain can understand. I'd hazard a guess they see in infrared or ultraviolent, but they seem to understand clothing choices well enough.
