macaw
JP: コンゴウインコ (kongō-inko)
Macaws are colorful, long-tailed parrots with proportionally large, powerful beaks. There are 19 species in various colors, including combinations of red, green, yellow and blue.
Most macaw species have white or white-striped-with-black facial patches which are as unique as fingerprints, though some such as the hyacinth macaw have sparse color highlights instead.
When tagging macaws some confusion may exist between red-and-green macaw and scarlet macaw as they are both large, red macaws with blue wing tips, the way to tell them apart is that the scarlet macaw has a bright yellow area in the middle of the wings while the red-and-green macaw as the name suggests has green and blue wing tips.
