fallout (series)
A series of post-apocalypse role-playing games originally developed by Interplay in 1997, before being taken over by Bethesda Game Studios since 2004.
The game focuses on the events of what is left of the United States long after a global nuclear war. It takes place in a retro-futuristic alternate universe in which technology and aesthetics are reminiscent of the 1950s and satirizes the American exceptionalism characteristic of the era.
A live action television series based on the games, titled Fallout, was released in 2024.
Synopsis
After a resource war broke out over oil with China, the United States developed fusion power in an attempt to supplement its dwindling resources. However, with both sides gripped by xenophobia and paranoia, it was too late to prevent conflict, and the world was engulfed in a two-hour nuclear exchange known as "The Great War," which destroyed nearly all civilization. Around 100 years later, survivors from "Vaults"—underground shelters built to protect a small part of the population from the war—emerged to rebuild and reestablish civilization in a now desolate wasteland.
