Fallout is a series of post-apocalypse RPG games originally developed by Interplay in 1997, before being taken over by Bethesda Game Studios since 2004.
The game focusing on the events of what is left of the bombed out America. It takes place in an alternate universe in which technology and aesthetics are mostly stuck in the 50's; the series draws inspiration from the science fiction of the era, particularly Forbidden Planet and Flash Gordon, and satirizes the American exceptionalism characteristic of the era.
After a resource war broke out for oil with China, the United States has developed fusion power in an attempt to supplement dwindling resources. However, as both sides were filled with xenophobia and paranoia, it was too late to stop the war, and the world was engulfed in a two-hour nuclear war called "The Great War" that destroyed all civilizations. around 100 years later, the survivors from "Vaults", an underground shelters that was built to protect population from nuclear, has emerged from their safety to create a new life and civilizations from the now desolate world, filled to the brim with mutated creatures.
A live action series based on the games, titled simply Fallout was released in 2024.
