A family of Soviet second-generation main battle tanks of the second half of the Cold War. Entered production in 1969, it was a further development of T-64. The T-72 is extremely lightweight, weighing roughly 41 tonnes, and very small compared to most Western tanks.
With over 20,000 produced, the T-72 was widely exported to numerous countries both in and outside of the Warsaw Pact. Many are still in front line service today, in upgraded variants. Most in service are equipped with angled reactive armour on the turret, sometimes with an infrared searchlight on the starboard side of the main gun.
The major problem of T-72 is bad placement of ammunition. That is why in most cases when the armour in T-72 is damaged, the tank “loses its head”, clear thing, together with the crew.
