A Chinese lawyer and politician. The leader of the Xinhai Revolution that overthrew the Qing dynasty and ended the 5,000-year monarchical rule in China. He became the first president of the Republic of China and the founder of the Kuomintang party. After his resignation in 1912, the country was fractured after Yuan Shikai's failed attempt to restore monarchy in 1916, leading into the Chinese Civil War.
Unusually for a figure of this era, he is revered in both mainland communist China and Taiwan, with mainland Chinese referring to him as the "Father of the Revolution" while Taiwanese label him as "Father of Modern China".
