Usually this is done with a fully automatic weapon such as a submachine-gun, assault rifle, gatling gun or similar device inherently capable of firing several hundred rounds per minute. However, in certain situations, a semiautomatic weapon - or revolver, as in post #553086 - can be depicted for dramatic effect.
