A type of combat helmet and that was used by the United States military from the early 1980s until the mid-2000s, along with the PASGT bulletproof vest. First adopted in 1983. The name is acronym for Personnel Armor System for Ground Troops. The helmet is still in use by military and police forces in many countries. It is also popular with the press and journalists.
The helmet was initially called "The Fritz" because of its similiarity to the old German Stahlhelm.
