A mountainous coastal city in southern island of Kyushu, Japan, being the capital of the namesake prefecture. The city is a historical trading hub during the 16th century and being one of the earliest hubs of Christianity in the country.
It was the second city attacked during the Atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki that ended World War II. The bombing ocurred in August 9, 1945. The B-29 superfortress bomber Bockscar dropped the atomic bomb "Fat Man", a 5 short ton Plutonium device with a blast yield of 21 kilotons, in the early morning of that day.
