The escort ship Matsuwa, the second of the Etorofu-class of coastal defense ships, as depicted in Kantai Collection.
Matsuwa has long, mostly black hair that transitions to pink or purple near the tips. She has green tareme eyes. She wears a serafuku similar to Etorofu's: an elementary school serafuku with long sleeves and prominent buttons, with a hat bearing a blue ribbon, light blue neckerchief, white gloves, and blue pleated skirt. She differs from Etorofu by wearing white kneehighs, silver loafers, and no bike shorts over her underwear. She also wears a blue hairband with an attached bow that has an ornament resembling a searchlight in the center.
Her rigging is similar to Etorofu's. It involves a pistol-like single-cannon turret held in her right hand. A mast and smokestack are carried on her back by straps like a backpack, while depth charge launchers are held like a purse from another strap. An anti-air gun is strapped to her right thigh, and more depth charges are strapped to her left.
As a coastal defense ship, her class is even smaller than destroyers, and as such, she is portrayed as an "elementary school student" character, even younger than the generally "middle school" appearances of the destroyers. Matsuwa comes off as having a more demure and timid personality compared to older sister Etorofu.
The historical IJN Matsuwa was completed on the April 1, 1943 and led a mostly lonely and unremarkable service history. She was torpedoed and sunk by the submarine USS Harder in Hidai Bay on August 22, 1944.
She is named after Matua (Matsuwa in Japanese), one of the Kuril Islands spread between Hokkaido and Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula.
