Heavy Metal L-Gaim (重戦機(ヘビーメタル)エルガイム, Jūsenki (Hebī Metaru) Erugaimu, literally "Heavy Military Strategy L-Gaim") is an 80s science fiction mecha anime television series which aired in Japan from 1984 to 1985 and was directed by Tomino Yoshiyuki. The series is heavily influenced by previous sci-fi movies of the time, mostly Star Wars.
Its characters and mecha were designed by Nagano Mamoru, who would later go on to make designs for Zeta Gundam and create The Five Star Stories series.
