Heavy Metal L-Gaim (重戦機(ヘビーメタル)エルガイム, Jūsenki (Hebī Metaru) Erugaimu, literally "Heavy Military Strategy L-Gaim") is an 80s science fiction space opera mecha anime television series which aired in Japan from 1984 to 1985. It was produced by Sunrise and was directed by Tomino Yoshiyuki. L-Gaim is heavily influenced by previous sci-fi movies of the time, mostly Star Wars.
Its characters and mecha were designed by Nagano Mamoru, who would later go on to make designs for Zeta Gundam and create The Five Star Stories series.
