Edit
獣王記 (Juuou-ki, lit. "Beast King's Chronicle") is a 1988 beat'em up arcade video game developed and manufactured by Sega. Its North American title is Altered Beast.
The primary designer was Uchida Makoto , also responsible for the creation of the first Golden Axe game.
The game is set in Ancient Greece, and follows a beastman warrior [JP version] / centurion [EN version] who is unsealed/resurrected by Zeus to rescue his daughter Athena, and to do so becomes able to turn into beasts such as a magical werewolf with the use of power-ups to fight against legions of monsters and the undead.
After its initial arcade release, it was ported to several home video game consoles and home computers, most notably the Sega Master System and the Sega Mega Drive, for which it was a pack-in game. The Mega Drive version has been ported into the Nintendo 3DS as ”3D Juuouki” in 2013.
For its 2005 Playstation 2 remake with a more sci-fi setting, use Juuouki ~PROJECT ALTERED BEAST~ tag.
