A type of traditional Japanese vest that is worn over other clothing.
It is often mixed up with other stuffed garments like the hanten, dotera or tanzen, but is easily told apart becomes it has no sleeves.
It was mostly used as clothing for kids, but there is a custom for people who are celebrating reaching 60 years of age to wear a red chanchanko. This custom has become less popular in recent times.
