The American-180 is a .22 calibre submachine gun of US origin, developed in the 1960s. The weapon externally resembles the Thompson, either with a straight handguard or wooden vertical foregrip. It uses a top-loaded pan magazine with massive capacity, ranging from 165 to 275 .22 LR rounds.
Its high rate of fire can rupture soft bulletproof vests due to cumulative damage despite the cartridge lacking stopping power and sufficient velocity.
