A paved road in a city environment, usually designed for both vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
A street is a type of road. The difference between a road and a street is that road is for all types of roads, including highways and dirt roads outside of cities, while a street generally refers to a paved road in a city. A street is usually designed to accommodate both vehicle and pedestrian traffic, with intersections, traffic lights, sidewalks, and crosswalks. A highway is usually designed only for high-speed or long distance vehicle traffic and doesn't have these features.
A street can be unpaved dirt, but is most often paved with a hard, durable surface such as asphalt, concrete, cobblestone or brick.
