A short recoil-operated, semi-automatic anti-materiel rifle developed by the American Barrett Firearms Manufacturing company and chambered in the monstrous .50 BMG (12.7 × 99 mm) cartridge. The M82 was the first rifle chambered in 50 BMG to be mass produced for the civilian market. Used by many units and armies around the world for anti-material, anti-armor, anti-emplacement and sometimes long range antipersonnel use, it is also called the "Light Fifty" for it cartridge.
The weapon is found in two variants, the original M82A1 (and A3) and the bullpup M82A2. This tag also covers the Barrett M107A1, the "child" of the M82.
The Barrett 50 is also very common in cinema, most notably appearing in Robocop as the "Cobra Assault cannon".
