Klement the Flying Goose
Klement the flying goose was originally a mascot I intended to create for Kirogi (Korean for “wild goose”), a free and open-source ground control application by the KDE community. He is a domestic goose that flies by remotely controlling a quadcopter on his back. This idea wasn’t mine; there was a realistic design of this idea from another community member, I merely adapted it into a more cartoonish style.
I named the mascot Klement after French aviation pioneer Clement Ader because the maintainer of Kirogi was from France. Unfortunately, this name reminded him of an ex-boss he disliked, leading to an awkward conversation and ultimately halting any further discussion. It seems that project activities have also ceased.
Personally, I think it’s a very interesting concept that a domestic goose imitates its ancestor, the wild goose, by carrying a quadcopter on its back. The drawing is cute and it’d be a shame to just abandon it. In 2025, while sorting through my old works, I discovered its sketch version and took time to clean it up without altering its original design or style.
I may give Klement a minor role in my original project, Spirit Animals in Disguise.
