Destroyer Chongqing (133)
Between 18 - 19 November, 1985, the Chinese destroyer Chongqing was sent to monitor the Soviet Navy's Kirov-class nuclear-powered battlecruiser Frunze (later Admiral Lazarev) after it ventured into the East China Sea. The destroyer closely monitored the Soviet giant ship until it reached its destination in Vladivostok.
The confrontation was captured by Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force photographer Shibata Mitsuo who flew over the scene, and the photo has since become the symbol of the then weak Chinese Navy's unyielding altitude towards the superpower navy.
