Fuwas, the Mascots of 2008 Beijing Olympics
Fuwas are the mascots of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. This is a fan art of them using my typical art style. I attempted the idea first in 2007, and redrew it in 2010 and 2015. The one above is the 2015 version. I think many people came to know me because of this picture.
For those who aren’t familiar with them:
- Beibei is a fish. I gave her the design elements like fish fins, water flows and waves.
- Jingjing is a panda. I gave him a more bulky body shape, and the design elements like leaves.
- Huanhuan is the Olympic flame. I gave him the design elements like fire and traditional Chinese cloud ornaments (emulating smoke).
- Yingying is a Tibetan antelope. I gave him more defined robotic details to emphasize his athletic look, and sharp design elements inspired by glacier rocks on the Himalayan mountain.
- Nini is a swallow. I emphasized her bird beak, and gave her design elements like wings and traditional Chinese cloud ornaments.
In the 2015 version, I used my typical bio-robotic style. I also tried to emphasize Chinese style in their costumes, like the collars and ornaments, etc. Compared to the previous versions, the 2015 redesign was more thorough. The design elements of each character were more clearly defined.
