Ship Turrets - EVE Online
One of the most engaging projects of my career has to be the redesign of EVE Online's ship turret system. The original vision for the turrets, back when EVE launched, had included deployment and firing animations that were not possible at the time due to technological limitations. With this redesign we were able to finally realize that vision.
The new system also had improved target tracking, which eliminated "popping" between animation states as the target passed between the firing arcs of individual turrets. Improved shaders allowed us to have the turrets adopt the material settings of the ship they were fitted to, to improve visual cohesion, as well as glow effects due to overheating when a turret would see prolonged use.
