Explorers of the abandoned underground tunnel
Since long ago this city had flourished because of iron.
Since before the two world wars had begun, it had been developed as one of the few domestic locations to obtain iron ore.
And that iron was below the city.
To seek out those resources, tunnels zigzagged below the city like an underground ant colony.
Before long the war had begun, and the operation to move facilities underground to protect them from the enemy began. Expansion of the underground spaces began at once.
While the tunnels grew deeper and deeper, the passageways to deliver goods to the underground factories or the port had to be maintained, and barracks were built for the workers and their military policemen.
It was as though the entire town had been moved underground whole, an underground city.
After the war the Allied forces destroyed most of the equipment and blocked off the tunnels.
In modern times, these spaces were used once again as a limited base for underground shopping centers, subways and water pipes.
Furthermore, since the undergrounds spaces were too wide, many remained unmaintained even a half century after the war.

This was one of the entrances to one of those uncontrolled spaces.
Hearing about the collision of the monster and the train days earlier, young boys and girls began daring each other to enter the tunnels, wondering what could be inside.
No one expected that not one of them would ever return above ground again.
