Artist's commentary
I watched Turning Red a while ago and I liked this scene the best. Well, partly cause I share the same name with this character 😅 My name in Vietnamese is Minh and it would be Ming (明) in Chinese character. I can relate a lot to the character - Ming, as well. I have this huge anger inside of me and I'm very emotional, but I don't show it to most people, except for my family or my really close friends, cause I want to be good. So when Ming turned into this gigantic huge panda, I thought that what my anger would look like too. And then when she cried and said "I will never be good enough", I was blown away cause that is how MY emotion works as well. I get SUPER angry, and then I cry and think I'm flawed in some kind of way. I think if I had the red panda in the movie, I would choose to banish it cause it's...well..."inconvenient" and "messy" to feel this way. I'm still learning to accept my panda and share it with other people, instead of hiding it or running away. Can't deny it's a struggle though. I have been running away and hiding for most of my life.
