6/3 is Do Nothing Day!
The "Rental Person Who Does Nothing" started offering his services on this day in 2018!
On June 3, 2018, Morimoto Shoji (@morimotoshoji) started offering a rental service on a Twitter where others can hire him to "do nothing". As he describes, this service is for situations when one might simply want another person to be present, such as accompanying others in stores that are difficult to enter alone, adding to the headcount for an activity, or for saving a spot for flower viewing. His service has been wildly successful and keeps him busy to this day.
Fans of his crowdfunded to establish June 3rd as "Do Nothing" day with Morimoto's permission, raising 384,000 yen to register the day with the Japan Anniversary Association. The day promotes the idea behind his service where value can also be found in doing nothing, and to be free from social responsibilities even if it's for one day. The day was officially registered in 2023 following the campaign's success.I'm no good at sitting still. If I were to start a service, it'd probably be something like "Rental Person Who Does Something".1M Yen Per Session
