I really liked the idea of EVE Online (I can't afford to play 2 online mmo's so unfortunatly I'm not playing it), and then this contest pops up on Deviantart.
It looked like a really fun challenge and I'm in need of some portfolio work anyway so I decided to enter the EVE Online contest.

First thing I did was put down some shapes and silhouettes, I did this to see what kind of ship I was going to make. Although my girlfriend is a big fan of huge starships I decided to go with a smaller ship, a swift strike ship made for combat.
So looking at those silhouettes I picked the one that just looked the coolest to me.

Next step was to take this silhouette and turn it into some rough concept art. Just black thick lines. But this wouldn't do for the orthographical view that was required by the contest.

So i took the piece of concept art into 3d and started modeling out the basic forms of the ship. Adding detail as I went from engines to the guns, etc.

When I was done with those I rendered out the 6 views in 1 color with wires. Took them into photoshop and started adding/removing details. And finally pushing some color behind those lines to emphasize some parts of the machinery.

Finally I took the standard hard brush and made a perspective view to get a better feel of the spacecraft.

I'm pleased to say it came out great and I'm happy with it.
I would definitly pilot this Assault ship! :D (Big Grin)
