Hi everyone! It's been quite a while since I've last posted to Newgrounds huh! I've been busy this year working on a bunch of stuff! This is one of them! Last week my first cover for Scrapnik was unveiled and it was so heartwarming to see all the positive reactions from everyone. Thank you to everyone from the bottom of my heart! I'm glad I could make a nice piece for my debut over at IDW! The issue comes out in October and should be generally available but just in case, you might wanna ask your local comic book shop and/or order online for this particular copy if you want it!

So let's start with the first batch of thumbnails I made for the cover. This was when I had only received a small amount of information regarding the story so I immediately went to work to make some cool covers. The last 2 do kinda fit what the story is going for in different ways. The first thumbnail, however, is very unfitting and you will all see why when the first issue releases . The doodles on the side, however, aren't relevant but I hope you like them.

Anyway here's the real meat and potatoes. The process behind this drawing was certainly interesting, to say the least! I was really rooting for #1 to be chosen at first but I can see how this wouldn't really be fitting for a B cover. Maybe if I had the A cover this might've been chosen but back then I didn't know which variant I would have. #3 on the other hand, I can see why it wasn't chosen! This whole project kinda carries this theme of secrecy and the reactions that it has brought have certainly been super amusing and fun. Anyway, we were trying to keep the new characters for the series a secret so BAM #3 is basically out the window haha.

I think #2 was the best choice. I initially didn't like how it was coming out so I went ahead and made some adjustments. In the end, the cover came out more as a mix of the two iterations! From there I did the lineart! I just love making busy backgrounds so I gave it my all just to fill up most of the drawing with badnik parts and whatnot. When my work was sent over to Sonic Team (in Japan) for review, I got a couple of notes for revisions n whatnot. The lines in the flat colors are actually my first version of the lineart! Go ahead and take a look between the flat colors and rough colors to see what changed and what didn't! From there, I basically made 1 rough draft of the colors because I only had those colors in mind for this thumbnail at the start. Couldn't imagine anything else conveying the same feeling of creepy and being in new territory as best as what I went for. After that, all I had to do was render the crap out of everything here! Overall I had so much fun throughout the entire process.

On a slightly unrelated note, I celebrated the occasion by buying myself a sonic mochi plush back then and it was so nice... It's so gosh darn fluffy! I keep it on my lap from time to time when I work. I give it a 9.5/10! It's a teeensy bit feaky that it's just his head tho lol.

I know a lot of people over on my Twitter post have been constantly pointing out all the little easter eggs I put into this cover and it's been very funny seeing how people react to it (don't come after me when the book releases lol).
