The John Henry class is a dedicated resource ship. Conceived to help cut out the middlemen for enterprising companies, the ship has facilities to extract, process, and store materials all in one vessel.
Using a sturdy and well thought out limpet system JH vessels will anchor themselves to a profitable strike and mine it to exhaustion. Alternatively the JH's can also navigate shallow gravity wells thanks to it's powerful engines. Allowing such ships to descend onto small moons or planetessemals if they are rich enough. Though able to store a considerable amount of raw materials, the vessels are able to mine far more than they'd even be able to hold. To allleviate this potential shortfall in efficiency designers included a robust docking colar feature to the bow of the ship. Allowing smaller dedicated haulers to prevent the bigger ship from filling up.
As the Henrys will be in one space for extended periods and their refining plumes are often visible from extreme distances, great care was given to the ship's defence. With minor attention given to the stern in armor and weapons, the fore and sides became doubly strong. Once the vessel is emplaced it becomes more a fortified structure than a space vessel. Wise companies will often station security forces with the vessel as well.
Even fully crewed and garrisoned these ships can remain on station for months with little support. Extra attention was given to make sure that the living and recreational areas of the ship were top notch and lacked for little in comforts. The standard yellowed color of the John Henrys has lead to crews labeling them as "space bananas".
