Chiyomi got some sweets from Marie-chan as a sign of reconciliation. However, she had never seen the candy before, so she let her mom and the teacher eat it first to see if it was poisonous.
The word for food taster is specifically for those that would test food for poison, hence the skull and crossbone emoji.
