Thank you, Taro.
A meme originated from a scene in ep.18 of Return of Ultraman, where Jack was saved by Seven when flying towards the sun, and he expressed his gratitude toward his savior.
The scene itself is not meme worthy, but the mistranslation sure did the job. At the time, the copyrights of Ultraman series were authorized to Shanghai Dubbing Studio, a state-owned company that does professional dubbing for films and shows in foreign languages. However, another company named Ruishi Culture. ltd, who claimed to have purchased the copyright from some Thai company, came in, and started to distribute their version of subtitled Ultraman. Ruishi's version was soon proven to be far inferior than SDS's version, as it was laced with countless mistranslations that were either bewildering enough or hilarious enough to ruin the audiences' experience.
"Thank you, Taro" is one of the most infamous Ruishi mistranslations. The fact that Seven's theme is playing in the background during this scene, and the chorus is "Seven! Seven! Seven!" at this exact moment, only adds to the utter hilarity of this mistranslation.
