32 The Truth
Snowy's injuries were all patched up. When he was done, Doc Oranguru made a suggestion.
"It might be hard for you to find your old pack now. Why not stay here with these Sobble?"
Snowy thought about it, then agreed. Everybody cheered! "Come on, let's go play!"
As the kids ran off, Rillaboom's face clouded over.
"That's the first time I've seen one of those... What do you call 'em, albinos?"
"Yes, pokemon like that are rather rare, and they tend to be weak, too. I've never seen one live long enough to evolve into its second form.
Snowy said she can't even turn invisible... For a Sobble, that can be a matter of life and death.
Her old pack probably left her behind on purpose so she wouldn't put them in danger. That can't have been an easy decision to make."
Doc Oranguru remained calm while he said all this, but Rillaboom looked angry.
"Shouldn't you have told them the truth? Why did you pair her up with those kids?"
Doc Oranguru looked offended. He looked his friend straight in the eye.
"They have faced countless dangers, but through it all they refused to ever abandon any of their siblings.
When Snowy does die, I want her to be happy with the life she's led, no matter how short it was. I believe the Sobble Brothers can do that for her."
Rillaboom hung his head in sorrow. "If only she could make it to becoming a Drizzile..."
Raggedy hadn't run off with the others. He'd needed to pee. And because of that, he heard everything.
