Hang in There, Kogasa-san 3555
There are several types of deadline; the first deadline brought up has a fair bit of leeway. If you stick to it, your editor will stay calm.
Next comes the "Well, guess it can't be helped" extended deadline. Still okay.
"Until the morning/afternoon of day X." Now it's getting bad. The editor's getting sharp stomach pains.
"By X time tomorrow." Seriously down to the wire.
"Please send ahead whatever you've got done." Barely any extension left. They do the phototypesetting at the creator's home.
"......" You've gone over the limit. The editor silently takes the remaining original art and leaves.
I've never stretched it out that far...more than a few times, okay? :-) Let's keep to our deadlines!
