Original phrase is a Chinese idiom: 闻鸡起舞，literally "Start practice when rooster crows." The story behind this idiom features Zu Ti (266-321) and his friend; they were young men who were eager to serve their country, which was half destroyed by the Huns at the time. They practiced martial arts as soon as the rooster crowed every morning, and eventually achieved their goal and became generals.
Because of the infamy of Cai Xukun's shrieking rap song Because You Are Beautiful, as well as the misheard lyric "Chicken you are beautiful," netizens started to make connections between anything Cai related and the already popular rubber screaming chicken. Many see Cai's shrilling singing just as ridiculous as the screaming of a rubber chicken. Since the "practice" part in this idiom can literally be translated to "dance", this peculiar meme is thus born.
