Sorry, but I can certainly do whatever I please, simply because I'm rich.
A Chinese internet meme. Originated from a scene in episode 17 of the HK police crime drama Every Move You Make, but only went viral recently. Like the previous one in the pool, this is already a rather famous meme that has been in circulation for quite some time, but it got a popularity boost from a recent custom online GIF maker that enabled users to add their own dialogue. This one came first.
In said episode, detective Mak Wing-hei and his colleague are following triad leader and murder suspect Leung Wing-tai. Mak and co are discovered by Leung and forced to expose their identities. Mak then vows to put Leung in jail, but Leung taunts him:
Mak: I will find the evidence and put you in jail.
Leung: Whatever. I am a law-abiding citizen. Even if you do manage to accuse me of something I didn't do, I can also afford expensive and able lawyers in my defense. I think I'll pass on your prison time.
Mak: Don't even think you can do whatever you please just because you are rich!
Leung: Sorry, but I can certainly do whatever I please, simply because I'm rich. (To his thug) But I think he is too poor to appreciate even the sheer meaning of this.
(Leung and his thug laugh out loud and leave, leaving a defeated Mak behind.)
Use this meme to mock something that you know is unfair/wrong/hurting your feelings, but you can't do anything about. It can be serious or lighthearted.
